Native forests for habitat not furnaces

Join us in a national day of action on burning native forests for
power and help Tasmania say NO to native forest-fed power stations.

When: 12.30 pm Tuesday 1 June
Where: Parliament Lawns

As world markets reject Tasmania's native forest woodchips, Forestry
Tasmania is more and more desperate for a new place to put them. There
are
currently 3 proposals to burn native forest wood, including wood from
oldgrowth and other high-conservation value forests, in stand-alone
wood-fired power generators.

Not only is this a tragedy for climate change, biodiversity, water
catchments and world-heritage values, it's bad for Tasmania's brand
and a
direct threat to a forest solution in Tasmania.

As environment groups and the logging industry edge closer to
agreement around protecting our native forests and building a
sustainable
plantation-based timber industry, wood-fired power threatens to
undermine a resolution and lock in decades more conflict over logging.

Pledge your opposition to Wood fired power stations. Sign on to our
pledge on Tuesday at 12:30pm.
Supported by a coalition of groups, Huon Valley Environment Centre,
Still Wild Still Threatened, The Wilderness Society (Tasmania), and
Climate Action Group Hobart
