MEDIA ALERT
CONSERVATIONISTS TO RELEASE VIDEO FROM ENDANGERED SPECIES SURVEY
PROJECT FOR INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR BIODIVERSITY

WHEN: Saturday May 22, 10:45am

WHERE: Parliament Lawns, Hobart

WHAT: Still Wild Still Threatened has been conducting fauna surveys of
logging coupes in the Upper Florentine valley. Video footage of
threatened devils and spotted tailed quolls will be released and
screened tomorrow at an event on Parliament lawns. The infra red
sensor cameras have recorded over 200 videos of more than 10 devils,
over the last 10 weeks. The close up videos show devils in the natural
habitat.

The event coincides with the International Day for Biodiversity and
the one year anniversary of the Tasmanian devil’s addition to the
endangered species list.

“The Tasmanian devil population has been reduced by 80% in the last 14 years.

One year has passed since the devil’s addition to the national
endangered species list and the government is still logging devil
habitat.

The devil is protected under the Environmental Protection and
Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.

The logging industry is exempt from the EPBC Act and permitted to
destroy endangered species habitat.

Logging of Tasmania’s ancient forests is creating disastrous outcomes
for threatened species and biodiversity.” Said Still Wild Still
Threatened spokesperson Ed Hill.
