Dear Supporter
The Australian logging industry is pushing plans to build polluting
wood fired power stations that would burn native forest to generate
power.
Burning native forests for power generation and plans to build
polluting power plants in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania are supported by
both the Labor and Liberal parties. These proposals are being pushed
by the Australian forestry industry that is in crisis. These plans
are a life line to woodchipping and will entrench Australia in native
forest destruction, and loss of wildlife habitat with resulting
impacts on climate and water catchments. We need your help to stop
this.
The Federal Labor Government’s Renewable Energy legislation wrongly
includes forest fuelled power stations alongside real renewable energy
sources. So, logging companies can get credits to burn wildlife
habitat and call it renewable energy.
A coalition of environment groups are gathering momentum in the
campaign to urge governments, energy retailers and the community to
rule out native forest wood fired power stations. In the lead up to
the federal election, we will be conducting a national mail-out to
57,000 households in marginal electorates, in New South Wales,
Victoria and Tasmania.
I am writing on behalf of Huon Valley Environment Centre to ask for
your financial support for this mail out. We need to raise $12,000 for
the postage and printing costs and we are asking forest groups around
Australia to sign on to support this vital campaign effort. Taking no
money for government or corporation, we need your help with this
campaign.
In the lead up to the Federal Election, this is one of the major
nation-wide campaign efforts by the ENGO's. On behalf of Australia's
native forests, we need your help to stop this new threat. With your
help we can increase awareness of the forestry industry plan to build
polluting and native forest destroying power plants and send a message
to our politicians that governments need to support genuine renewables
like wind and solar instead.
You can pledge your support by emailing me at jweber at nativeforest.net
When we reach our target I will let you know.
Let’s move forward and make this exciting project happen.
We have already raised $3000 for this project.
With thanks
Jenny Weber Huon Valley Environment Centre
