*Trial Date Set in Gunns 20 Case*

The Supreme Court of Victoria this morning set a trial date of February 2010
in the Gunns20 case. The case is estimated to run for 20 days.

“Our Lawyers have told Gunns that those of us left in the case have limited
assets. Yet Gunns continues to spend millions of dollars hounding us. It
appears that silencing opponents and not money has been the motive of this
case,” said Mr Adam Burling (defendant #1)

“They may be a billion dollar company but Gunns are environmentally and
socially bankrupt. These loggers are ruthless, Gunns poisons native
wildlife, destroys old growth forests and to date have sued 33 people for
daring to oppose its horrendous activities. Any company looking at investing
in their proposed Pulp Mill should think twice about who they are involved
with,” said Mr Burling

“This case continues to be about community’s campaign to protect Tasmania’s
forests and ultimately our ability to speak out and stand up for what we
believe in. If Gunns want to continue this costly and time consuming
process, so be it. We are prepared to continue the campaign to protect
Tasmania’s forests through the Supreme Court if Gunns insists,” said
defendant #8 Louise Morris.

“While we are in the court system people across Tasmania and Australia will
continue to opposed Gunns’ proposed pulp mill and fight to protect the
forests,” concluded Ms Morris.
